This time we travel from Gävle Central to Fagersta Central while the warming spring sun is setting. Along the way we pass stations with historic significance: In Storvik, nowadays a slumbering little town, there used to be 300 people employed by the railway. It also had northern Europes longest platform many years ago. After Storvik we pass a couple of stations that used to have connecting lines. Both in Byvalla and Morshyttan used to have 891mm narrow gauge lines and in Fors there was a 1435mm normal gauge line that connected. Avesta Krylbo station ended up in the news in July 1941 when a German train carrying explosives and ammunition caught fire and exploded just outside the station. According to the official reports it was an accident caused by either sparks from the breaks or an overheated wheel bearing, but some believe that it was a sabotage carried out by Brittish agents. We will probably never know what really happened on that early summer morning...
