🌊Join me on this Dorset coastal walk to experience the beauty, history and quiet emotion of Worth Matravers and its surrounding cliffs. Filmed on a bright but blustery September day, this 2 hour 12 minute walking video captures the rugged charm of the Purbeck Coast, from tranquil village lanes to wild open sea views. 🍃Our walk starts at the Worth Matravers car park, with a brief look at the facilities before wandering through the village itself. Traditional Purbeck stone cottages & the peaceful village green give this place its timeless character. Passing Weston Farm, we’ll see both the National Trust motorhome site and the adjacent campsite, perfect bases for exploring this stretch of the South West Coast Path. From here the path opens out across Wencombe Dairy Farm, where I was lucky enough to spot a lone deer running across the fields beneath the September sun. 🏞️As we reach the South West Coast Path, there’s sweeping views reveal Chapman’s Pool below, before heading towards St Aldhelm’s Head. 🎖️This is where Dorset’s quiet cliffs meet its wartime legacy. Something I was unaware of until taking this route. There’s The Royal Marines Memorial and after climbing the steep hill at Eustace Beach, there’s NCI St Albans Head lookout. During the Second World War, this remote headland was home to secret radar development, a project so vital that the area became known as the “Silicon Valley of Britain.” It’s fascinating to imagine the watchkeepers and engineers who once stood here, where today only foundations & grassland remain. ⛪️Next, it’s St Aldhelm’s Chapel, an 800-year-old Norman church perched high above the sea. Local legend has it that a grieving father built the chapel after his daughter and her new husband drowned off the headland. He then paid to keep the lights burning to warn sailors away from the same fate. Centuries later, this same coastline would once again shine a light of protection through radar. 🧗♂️Continuing along the coast, the path leads us towards Winspit Caves, where dramatic cliffs and quarry walls meet the sea. Once an active stone quarry, this site has since appeared in Doctor Who and Star Wars: Andor. Now owned by the National Trust, the caves are closed for safety, but the views & scenery are still amazing. 🌾The return to Worth Matravers passes through meadows and gentle countryside paths, before arriving back ant this quaint village and the Square & Compass pub, home to a small fossil museum and a true slice of Dorset village life.🦖🦕 Filmed with minimal narration & natural sounds due to the wind, this video offers a calm, immersive experience — a virtual walk through one of England’s most evocative landscapes. Perfect for those who love coastal walking, British history, or quiet moments of reflection. ⏱️Timestamps 00:00 Intro & Visitor Information 02:28 Walk through village to Weston Farm 16:40 Weston Farm to Chapmans Pool (includes deer sighting) 30:35 South West Coast Path 37:58 The Royal Marines Memorial 38:47 South West Coast Path to path leading to Eustace Beach 57:42 South West Coast Path to St Aldhelms Head 1:06:10 NCI at St Aldhelms Head & Radar Memorial 1:07:48 St Aldhelms Chapel 1:09:07 South West Coast Path to Winspit Quarry 1:37:26 Winspit Quarry 1:44:56 Walk to Village 2:11:02 Outro 🏕️ Useful links: • Weston Farm Motorhome Site (National Trust): nationaltrust.org.uk/holidays/dorset/weston-farm-motorhome-site • Weston Farm Campsite (National Trust): nationaltrust.org.uk/holidays/dorset/weston-farm-campsite • St Aldhelm’s Chapel (National Coastguard): https://www.nci.org.uk/chapel-of-st-a... • Winspit Caves / Quarry Info: dorsetexplored.co.uk/things-to-do/winspit-quarry
