It is accommpanied by Aloogadde palya or Aloo palya and spicy green chutney made from coconut, It is similar to masala dosa or set dosa but smaller in size, made out of rice batter and more butter. history dating back to 1928.A lady named Chennamma migrated to Davanagere with her children and started preparing Dosa, Chutney and Potato Palya with her own unique recipe. initially, she used to prepare Dosa with Ragi batter. Later by 1938, chennamma’s children started preparing Dosa with Rice batter, puffed rice and dal with generous dollops of butter. This became extremely popular with locals very soon. This was carried on by Chennamma's two sons Shanthappa and Mahadevappa. Legacy continued. They both opened their own eateries. I took the support of Wikipedia for sourcing the Davanagere Benne Dose origination. Special thanks to them. As Benne Dosa become popular, people of Davangere captured the essence of Benne dose , started their own eateries and popularity soared across the state and in India. Aloo Palya or Potato Sabji preparation is unique. Turmeric or Haldi and Rye seeds not used in tempering and colouring of Palya. Simple onion tempering and salt is added to the boiled potatoes. Spicy green chutney is made coconut. Due to the more butter and spicy chutney Dosa taste feels heavenly. Dosa is Golden brown outside and soft inside. Overall it's joyous experience for food lovers .
