Recently, I and a few other enthusiasts had heard that the Thunderbolt 1003 in Providence, KY, had had its radio and antennas replaced, and thus was officially working again. As such, yesterday morning, @madisoncountysirens1 and I hit the road for Providence to attempt to film this siren again. Here, we got to meet-up with @MusicCitySirens again, and we got set-up to try and film it. Noon rolls around and... nothing. Not a single siren around Providence goes. After about 5 minutes of waiting, I decide to call the dispatch, and it turns-out that apparently they'd just straight-up forgotten, and the lady there tells me that they'll get right on testing the sirens. Three minutes later at 12:08, this siren fires right on up! After the Thunderbolt winds down, you can hear the 3t22 at the east end of town doing its full three minutes of alert, as its radio usually misses the cancel tones and goes for a full cycle as a result. Unfortunately, just before the siren wound-up and during the entire time it was sounding, a nice, strong gust of wind decided it was the perfect time to go blowing through, so, as a result, the video looks like it was being shot during an earthquake. Sadly, there wasn't much I could do about that, especially since the wind was kinda blowing in the direction from the siren towards my camera. The siren also has a large air leak in the blower pipe, though thankfully the chopper and solenoids still sound nice and healthy. Either way, I was finally able to record both my first Thunderbolt 1003 siren and my first up-close recording of a siren doing hi-lo! I also got to record my first 8 RPM Thunderbolt as well, which is pretty cool, IMHO. I do plan on coming back here again at some point, either for Kentucky's SWA in March and/or when the weather's likely to not be nearly as windy for a better video, along with filming that 3t22 on the east side of Providence at some point. I will say, I do absolutely love the angle on the side of the hill here next to the Dollar General, as it just about puts you and your camera on eye-level with the siren. Webster County, KY, tests on the first Friday of every month at noon, weather permitting. The Kentucky Statewide Siren Map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/vie...
