The Jive Five organized in Brooklyn in 1958 as the Genies. For three straight weeks in 1961, the renamed group rode the top of BILLBOARD's Hot R&B Singles chart with "My True Story", a song that also peaked at #3 on the Hot 100. During the early '60s, doo wop was going out of fashion. A British Invasion that began in Feb. '64 with a certain Liverpool quartet, finished them off, although various iterations of the Five continued unsuccessfully for several years, after which they were a featured act on the Oldies and Nostalgia circuits. Would love to have a Jive Five slide show but I couldn't find a single contemporary image of Bea Best, a gal who sang the baritone parts.
