In this episode, Not Done Yet!, I dive deep into the world of tube amplifier electronics, focusing on the unexpected behaviour I’ve been experiencing in my bass preamp tone stack. While the 12AX7 tube preamp itself is stable, the tone stack output has been puzzling, and I share exactly what I’ve discovered so far. Using my Rigol oscilloscope, I walk through scope traces of the preamp as currently built, then show how things change when the local negative feedback loop is lifted from the circuit. To provide context, I also demonstrate the tone stack output from a vintage Fender Champ amplifier, demonstrating what the “expected” response should look like. This video is perfect for anyone building or troubleshooting DIY tube guitar amps, learning about tone stack design, or curious about how feedback loops influence circuit performance.
