Ink and Performance -- the Expressive Power of the Line in Chinese Calligraphy Talk with Lu Dadong （鲁大东）, artist, Hangzhou Language: German & Chinese May 15th 2013, 5 pm UdK Berlin, Room 310, Hardenbergstraße 33, Berlin This talk is one of the serial events: "Hidden Images" -- on the Situation of Art in China (Das Bild hinter dem Bild -- zur Lage der Kunst in China). The art of the line has been a special feature of both Chinese writing and painting for more than 2,000 years, and the line is also the common element closely linking the two art forms. The special properties of brush and Chinese ink have been key to the development of the ideographic Chinese characters in which the act of writing as a performative element that leaves behind a trace of a given moment is central. What connections can we find between traditional calligraphy and performance-oriented contemporary art in China? How does a modern calligrapher work? Die speziellen Eigenschaften des Pinsels und der Tusche waren für die Entwicklung der ideographischen chinesischen Schrift ausschlaggebend. Dabei ist das performative Moment des Schreibakts und die hinterlassene Spur eines ‚Jetztʻ zentral. Inwiefern lassen sich Verbindungen zwischen der traditionellen Kalligraphie und performativ orientierter Gegenwartskunst in China erkennen?
