Dr. Julia Clarke holds a degree in Pharmacy from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (2005), a master's degree in Biological Sciences (Neurosciences) from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (2008), and a Ph.D. in Medicine: Medical Sciences from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (2010). She was a PNPD fellow (2011-2014) at the Institute of Medical Biochemistry of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, working in the area of Alzheimer's disease. Currently, Dr. Clarke is a Professor at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at UFRJ. She has experience in encephalitis and viral and bacterial infections, the effects of environmental factors on the developing brain, as well as neurodegenerative diseases, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, metabolism, developmental programming, and aging. She has received more than 10 significant awards, and since 2016, she has been awarded a Young Scientist grant from FAPERJ. Dr. Clarke published more than 40 scientific articles, and currently supervises or has supervised more than 40 undergraduate and graduate students. Julia is the mother of two girls (maternity leave in 2015 and 2020).
