Learn more about How to Break Down Large Goals into Manageable Steps. https://www.everyday.design/faqs/how-... ------------------------ Video Notes Do big goals sometimes feel, well… too big? Like you don’t even know where to start? Trust me—you’re not alone. But here’s the good news. There’s a simple way to tackle those big, intimidating goals and actually make progress without feeling overwhelmed. The secret? You break them down into smaller steps. It’s like taking one stair at a time instead of trying to jump to the top of the staircase! Today, I’m going to show you exactly how to do that." First, why is this even important? Breaking down goals makes them more manageable and keeps you from freezing up and not making progress. Plus, it gives you little wins along the way. Each step forward builds momentum, and before you know it, you’ve climbed a mountain! Sounds good, right?" Now let’s walk through the steps to break your goals down into manageable steps. STEP 1 – Get Crystal Clear Alright, first up—get crystal clear on your goal. What do you really want to achieve? It has to be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. You might’ve heard of the SMART framework—it’s a game-changer. For instance, instead of saying ‘I want to get fit,’ try saying, ‘I’ll lose 10 pounds in the next 3 months by exercising four times per week and eating more veggies.’ Boom—a clear target. If this feels tricky, don’t worry. That’s where the Goal Focus Worksheet comes in handy. More on that later!" STEP 2 – Identify Key Milestones Next, think about your big goal as a road trip. What are the major stops along the way? These are your milestones. They represent progress and keep you on track." Say you’re writing a book. Your key milestones could be brainstorming ideas, completing an outline, and finishing the first chapter. Once you hit those mini-goals, you’ll feel unstoppable! STEP 3 – Break Down Milestones Now, milestones might still feel a little vague, so we’re going to break them down even further into sub-goals. Think of these as bite-sized tasks. For example, if your milestone is ‘complete an outline,’ your sub-goals might include brainstorming chapter titles, mapping out key topics, and creating character bios. These sub-goals are much more actionable. STEP 4 – Create a Task List Once you’ve got those sub-goals, it’s time to get nitty-gritty. List out every task you need to accomplish. These will become your daily or weekly to-dos. The smaller and more actionable, the better. Oh, and don’t forget to use the Goal Focus Worksheet for this. It’s designed to help you organize and really dig into the details." STEP 5 – Prioritize and Schedule Now, not all tasks are created equal. Focus on the ones that’ll make the biggest impact first. Then, map them out on a timeline—when will you tackle each step? A solid plan keeps you on track and prevents procrastination. And don’t try to tackle it all at the same time. Be realistic about what can be accomplished in a day. In our Goal Focus Coaching Programs, we encourage you to prioritize 3 top actions for a day. That may not seem like much, but over a year, you’ve done the most important action over 1000 times. That cumulative impact is enormous. STEP 6 – Track Progress One of the best parts about breaking goals into smaller steps is that you can actually see your progress. Regularly check in on how you’re doing. Are you moving forward? Do you need to adjust? And please, don’t forget to celebrate every little win! When you hit a significant milestone, treat yourself. You’ve earned it! Now, if at any point you feel stuck or need a little extra push, Everyday Design has your back. Book a ReFocus Power Hour to recalibrate and realign your daily actions with those big dreams. Sometimes, all it takes is a fresh perspective to reignite your momentum!" Alright, your action plan starts today.
