Open chords, (also referred to as "Cowboy Chords"), are often all too quickly dismissed by advancing guitarists, but in this lesson we learn to appreciate those old friends in a new light. Using an old Bluegrass classic as our model chord progression, we start with the basics on how to really get the feel and tone right, using a mixture of picking and strumming. It is essential that your chords are crisp and clear with no muffled notes. We then decorate these chords with classic runs and embellishments, things that really bring a song to life! As I often say, it's crucial that you take pride in your rhythm playing and really serve the song.
