Earl Freudenberg interviews Abe Zarzour one day before Abe's 80th birthday. obit from the Chattanooga Times: Abe Zarzour, 88, a well known Chattanooga business, sports and civic leader. died Sunday, April 6th 1997, in a local hospital. Abe owned and operated a restaurant at main and market streets for over 38 years and it was there that the late Harry Thornton gave him the name, "Mayor of Main Street." A Chattanooga native, he left after the 8th grade at Notre Dame, going to Somerset Kentucky, where he landed a job playing for the Somerset baseball team. After 4 years, he returned to Chattanooga and continued to earn his living playing baseball for several different companies. He went into the restaurant business in 1940. He coached nearly 40 boys who made it into the major & minor baseball leagues. He was a member of Sts Peter & Paul Catholic church and the knights of Columbus. Abe was a life member of the Boy's Club, charter member and past president of the old timers club and a member of the Half Century Club.
