Like clothing and makeup, plastic surgery trends come and go. But unlike those things, surgery is forever, and the decision to pursue it deserves special attention. Dr. Zelken believes that a trend toward facelifts at younger ages is building momentum, and will be one of the plastic surgery trends of 2023. This is one trend Dr. Zelken stands behind. There is no age limit for facelift surgery. Traditionally, facelift was reserved for aging faces with redundant and inelastic skin. More recently, facelifts became popular amongst 40-somethings and 50-somethings to combat the earliest signs of aging and mitigate additional changes. The results of surgery for this demographic tend to be more natural, forgiving, and beautifying than in faces with more obvious signs of aging and poor-quality skin when skin tightening alone, may not be enough. • Facelift under 40 years of age? Plastic Su... Although jowls and marionette lines are associated with facial aging, these phenomena are truly age-indiscriminate and are becoming more relevant to younger patients. Dr. Zelken aims to sharpen and enhance the mandibular contour and efface or eliminate perioral shadows. Minimally-invasive procedures that are often done in-office such as bichectomy, facial sculpting with liposuction and energy-based skin tightening technology, fillers, and neurotoxins are usually effective in younger patients. But these strategies can fall short, and a facelift may be considered in reasonable and educated patients of all ages. Since the pandemic, Dr. Zelken has performed facelifts on patients in their 20s and 30s. A desire for facelift amongst these young patients probably stems from societal forces, social media, and often to correct changes related to untreatably over-volumized cheeks and jawlines. In these cases, the objective is to slenderize the middle and lower face and achieve a more sculpted and harmonious overall facial shape. That said, Dr. Zelken’s average facelift patient is in their early- to mid-40s. #facelift #plasticsurgery #faq #news
