Angina is chest pain that occurs during exercise or strenuous activity when the heart muscles do not get enough oxygen rich blood supply. The difference between stable angina is that the pain stops when exercise stops, and unstable angina persists even when at rest. Angina may be a warning sign to ischemic heart disease, and also a heart attack (myocardial infarction) when one of the heart’s coronary arteries are suddenly blocked, usually by ruptured plaque that leads to the formation of a blood clot (thrombus). To diagnose the difference between angina & a heart attack (myocardial infarction) cardiac enzymes like troponin, CPK, CK, CK-MB are typically drawn.
