Antonín Dvořák's String Quintet No. 2 in G major, Op. 77. Scherzo allegro vivace, movement 3. One of the pinnacles of chamber music written to include doublebass, this string quintet originally comprised five movements. Dvořák subsequently removed the Intermezzo because he was worried that two slow movements might make the piece too long. In our Stalls video of the quintet we have very enthusiatically reinstated it. It was first conceived for his string quartet no. 4, and continued on as a beautiful stand-alone piece for string orchestra. This video is only one movement of the quintet.
