OpenBVE Throwback - R44 Pre GOH RR Train (via Express & Bridge)

R44 Pre GOH RR train, from Astoria to Bay Ridge-95th Street via Manhattan Bridge and Broadway/4th Avenue express. The northbound terminal corresponds to the 1967 one, when the RR train was rerouted from Forest Hills to Astoria during the opening of the Chrystie Street Connection, with the EE taking it's place. It was also called RR as the subway used double letter designations to refer to local services at that time from 1960 to 1985; it was also known as the BMT 2. The EE was discontinued in 1976 and replaced by the N, and the terminal swap took place in 1987 with the N & R trains; the RR along with all other double letter designations were eliminated in 1985. The last run with this specific R44 Pre GOH set took place a very long time ago on Dec 28th, 2024 during a run on the Franklin Avenue Shuttle (route run finale). The R44 (NYC Subway) was in service from 1971 to 2010 and was overhauled in the 1990s; plans to strip the subway cars of parts and sink them as artificial reefs along with other retired subway cars at that time were canceled due to hazardous materials found which would've presented a serious contamination hazard to the ocean life. Therefore the R44s were instead scrapped at Sim's Metal in Newark, NJ, with 5 cars still preserved (1 on display at the NYTM, and 4 in storage). As for the SIR, only 44 R44s are currently still in service as a contingency fleet only.
