Wings for Life Portrait – This is our story

The accident that changed everything – One second. A blink of an eye. An accident, which brought a very personal world crashing down. It is July 2003. Hannes Kinigadner is only 19 years old when he has a tragic accident at a charity race. He remains paraplegic from the shoulders down. A fate, hardly bearable for his family and his father, 2-time motocross world champion Heinz Kinigadner. He asks his friend Dietrich for help and manages to bring together the world's leading scientists in the field of spinal cord research in Salzburg. It soon became clear that there is hope. Injured nerve cells in the spinal cord are capable of regeneration. Because so little attention had been paid to this field of research until then and it has been largely underfunded, Heinz Kinigadner and Dietrich Mateschitz decided to act. In 2004 they founded Wings for Life. A non-profit research foundation with the goal of curing spinal cord injury. Every donation goes 100% to spinal cord research. Red Bull bears the administrative costs of the foundation. Wings for Life finances numerous successful projects in basic research, preclinical and clinical research and thus creates knowledge of incredible value for the future.
