Serpentinite | Beverly Creek Basin | Geology of the Central Cascades

I am back! A planned photography trip transforms into a neat look into the distant past. This week I head out to the Central Cascades for sunset photography. I am in the Beverly Creek Basin area in search of sunset compositions, but unfortunately a thick cloud layer moves in over the area and blocks any late afternoon sunlight. Rather than just give up, I decide to turn my attention to the strange greenish rocks of the basin. It turns out that these rocks are a metamorphic rock called “serpentinite”, and more interestingly, these rocks pre-date the cascade mountains by about 90 Million Years! Join me for this episode as I explain a tiny bit about how serpentinite forms and how it got to be 5000 feet up in the central cascades.
