There is a connection to plastics in everything we do, touching every area of our lives, our health, and the planet. We produce 400 million tons of plastics each year, and this number continues to dramatically increase. And then there’s the issue of plastic pollution – everywhere. Plastics contain many chemicals and additives in different formulations and forms. It has an impact on our lives, biological processes, and the environment. Plastics recycling has its place, but is not a sustainable solution. It’s more significant, for our health and the planet, to reduce the amount of plastic created and used in packaging and products. Stay tuned for future episodes that look at hot issues from the aspects represented by these panelists. Topics include: “Food Security, Health, and Nutrition,” “Water is Life,” and “The Air Around Us.” “People, Planet, and Health” is an ongoing vodcast series exploring big issues in our environment and the people who live here: how they overlap, how they’re connected, and what’s being done about it.
