The Story behind This is My Father's World On March 2nd, 2012, the day before my 5 years old son Jun Yu's first music competition, I was practicing with him at home. He was playing the Tarantella by Squire, a piece he has been preparing for the competition for few months. For those who are not familiar with classical repertoire. This is a virtuoso cello piece usually played by people who are much older than Jun. His cello teacher and I choose this song for him because we believe that he had the best chance to win playing this piece in this competition. As we were practicing, I suddenly felt very down. I had been burdened by the busy work and was under a lot of stress. I felt so tired and depleted that I did not want to go on any more. At that moment, I suddenly thought about the hymn "This is My Father's World ". I taught Jun to play it few months ago. I asked him to play for me. He did...with such beauty and warmth that it brought tears to my eyes. The beautiful melody and the special meaning gave me so much peace. I did not feel the burden any more. I suddenly realized that God was showing me that I need to put down my burden from this world and remember that HE is everything. I decided to change Jun's song for the competition. He should play music that glorifies God in his first ever competition. This will be a great testimony in his life and it will also encourage many others in the future. My decision to ask Jun to perform a hymn in the competition drew oppositions from Jun's teacher and my wife. However, I strongly felt that it was the right decision in my heart because I did not care if he wins or not. I want him to play music to glorify God. I felt very proud of my decision. The next morning, I kissed Jun and said a prayer for him before he went to the competition. Praise God! He won the second prize (the youngest winner in the competition's history). I was re-assured that when I surrender to God, He always gave me unexpected blessings. I have played the hymn "This is My Father's World" many times in the past. I never had such overwhelming feelings as the moment when I heard Jun playing on the evening of March 2nd. I think Jun's playing was different because his heart is pure. God always wanted us to have the heart of a child when it comes to our faith in God. I made a music video for Jun two month later.
