✓ It is a very humbling experience to witness the dedicated & extraordinary unconditional work carried out by the volunteers at London's Community Kitchen (LCK), helping people in their hour of need. We take a bow to the team of volunteers who distribute food parcels in all weathers come rain, shine and even in sub-zero temperatures. The timeline stamps in this video documentary: 00:00 - Start 00:20 to 5:30 - at 9.00am - the LCK Volunteer workers unloading & packing the food parcels. 05:30 to 6:34 - Volunteers saying a few words about why they do what they do. 06:34 to 6:48 - people queuing to collect their food parcels (queue can stretch into the 100's, with well over a 1000 people collecting their food parcels). 06:48 to 7:50 - van load of donated potatoes arriving and being unloaded. 07:50 to 8:58 - people collecting their free food parcels. 09:00 to 11:38 - London's Community Kitchen founder Taz saying that this has to be done because "it's the need of the hour; because there are communities across London facing financial hardship". 12:33 to 12:58 - a man queuing for his food parcel kindly saying a few words. 13:14 to 14:15 - Chetan Bhai telling us he's keeping a count of the number of people being served, he tells us that on one busy day he counted 1221 individual people coming in to collect food for 3000 family members. 14:15 to 15:09 - the line of people within the food collection point. 15:10 to 16:14 - the food parcels being distributed by the volunteers. 16:14 to 17:15 - 14 year old volunteer Darwood saying some words about why he volunteers. 17:16 to 18:35 - people collecting their free food parcels. 18:35 to 20:14 - Taz saying that all the volunteers have given up their weekends to work at the foodbank, right now LCK is supporting 12000 people a week across London. 20:14 to 22:16 - People entering the food collection point & collecting their food parcels. 22:16 to - Taz eloquently explains that; we are in probably one of the top 5 richest nations in the world, if not the richest city in the world (London). We know where the supply chain is, we know where the surplus food is. Unfortunately because of the capitalist system that we live in, with over 10 million people in London, there's always going to be an oversupply for the demand. What happens to that food when its not sold. LCK position themselves to be working with supermarkets to alleviate food poverty, intaking 50,000 metric tonnes of surplus food. If after watching this video you feel the urge to help by perhaps donating your time, food or money then you can contact them on: https://www.londonscommunitykitchen.c... It takes a lot of resources but luckily a lot of the volunteers have separate skill sets, some are: Project Managers, IT consultants, Bank Managers, Engineers, Hospitality Staff... they have put their skill & expertise together to deliver this ongoing project. As well as some giving out some treats, the volunteers also hand out parcels of fresh fruit & vegetables; thus ensuring that anyone struggling to reach their recommended '5 a day' allowance will easily achieve that intake target...........if not exceed it!!! The real crime and imbalance is that in a major city like London (which has a population of 10 million people) that supermarkets were (& still are) known to throw away perfectly good food simply because it is deemed to be out of date. Their motto is: 'Zero Waste - Zero Hunger' by the Community, for the Community. Preventing food waste & supporting those facing food insecurity. The gentleman (Taz Khan) who set up this project says that this is where London's Community Kitchen steps in and diverts food destined for landfill and stops the food going to waste & instead get the food back to where it rightly should be. Taz says that they have been operating in London for the past 8 years and set up on Ealing Road last year to help the people who have struggled during the pandemic. A special thank you and to Taz, Suzie, Chetan & all of the London's Community Kitchen team who welcomed us and graciously allowed us a privileged glimpse into their operation to do the videoing. Hunger or poverty has no recognition of class, creed or colour. In a society where everyone is looking out for themselves & thinking how to take, take, take (not give, give, give) it's highly refreshing to encounter people who are carrying out unconditional service to help the most needy in our society, may God Bless them all for what they do!!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 This video was recorded on: Saturday 26th June 2021
