Chartered by the Railway Touring Company and operated by West Coast Railways, 'The Sherborne Christmas Carol' would see BR(S) Rebuilt 'Merchant Navy' Class - 35028 "Clan Line" lead the charge on a spirited run to the south-west. Support would be provided by West Coast Railways Class 47 - 47848. 35028 started the tour out of London Victoria, travelling via Feltham to Byfleet & New Haw, where it would join the South West Mainline as far as Worting Junction. The tour then ventured onto the West of Endland Mainline, working through to its primary destination of Sherborne via Salisbury. The tour would then carry on the short distance to Yeovil Junction, where the Bulleid pacific could be serviced and turned in readiness for the charge back to the capital. The return journey saw 35028 cover the same route as the outbound leg, working back to London Victoria via Salisbury. Having been impressed by clips from other videographers at Farnborough, coupled to a desire to try something a little different for the opening sequence, the cameras arrived at Farnborough with a view to gain some first-hand knowledge of the station and the shot. 35028 rounded the curve into the station with an assured speed, complimented by a long whistle as it barrelled through the platform. Once onto the West of England Mainline, "Clan Line" really got into its stride, powering through Grateley with impressive pace. West of Salisbury, 35028 had to negotiate the single track sections of the West of England Mainline; the Bulleid pacific climbing through the curves at Semley. A crowd of enthusiasts would descend upon Yeovil Railway Centre during 35028's visit, with a gallery forming around the turntable to witness the Bulleid pacific being turned, and made ready for the return leg. The entire return leg would take place after sunset, leaving limited options for locations. However, the double platforms skirting the railway at Templecombe provided a fantastic backdrop, with "Clan Line" shattering the peace with a long blast on the whistle as it emerged out of the darkness. 00:00 - Farnborough 00:51 - Grateley 02:10 - Semley 03:02 - Yeovil Junction 09:04 - Templecombe All footage filmed on Wednesday the 4th of December 2024.
