The CR-V is Honda's mid-range utility vehicle, slotting between the smaller HR-V and the larger Pilot. Honda states "CR-V” stands for "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle"; the expansion "Compact Recreational Vehicle" also appears in independent press republished by Honda. The CR-V Concept Fourth generation (RM1, RM3, RM4) debuted at the Orange County International Auto Show in September 2011, the production 2012 CR-V debuted at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. In India, the 4th generation CR-V was launched in February 2013 with 2 variants, a 2.0 litre petrol and a 2.4 litre, 185 bhp petrol. The 2.0 litre variant is equipped with a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic gearbox. The 2.4 litre variant will come with an automatic gearbox, Honda's on demand 4 wheel drive system and an Econ-mode to increase fuel efficiency.
