What if Pro Ing from "Pilot Candidate" was in Super Robot Wars? An ability showcase. Pilot Candidate, also known by its translated title "The Candidate for Goddess", is an incomplete manga by Yukiru Sugisaki. The anime adaptation consists of twelve episodes which cover up to the beginning of the final volume of the manga, as well as an additional episode released as an OVA which covers material that was skipped by the series proper. While the series introduces multiple groups of characters and sources of tension, its run was too short in order to conclude its various plot threads. In the world of Pilot Candidate, humanity has expanded into space, but has been religated to life on artificial space colonies after most habitable planets have been destroyed. Using five giant robots known as Ingrids or Goddesses, humanity fights to protect Zion, the last habitable planet, from hostile extraterrestrial invaders known as Victim. The story primarily follows Rei "Zero" Enna, a boy who joins the Goddess Operation Academy in order to pilot an Ingrid. He is joined by other candidates with whom he competes for limited pilot roles, a repairer who handles the maintenance and other functions of his machines, and the existing Goddess pilots who already risk their lives against the Victim.
