What’s going on people - Spainey back again with Week 9 of my London Marathon 2026 training series! 💪 I’m officially 9 weeks into this journey toward my first ever marathon - targeting a sub-4 hour finish - and this week was a real test of discipline, mindset, and managing setbacks. After returning from my U.S. trip (Dallas & Miami), I was excited to get back into routine, but a lingering foot injury made things interesting… 😅 🏃🏾♂️ This Week’s Recap ✅ First week back training after holiday ✅ 7k Easy Run - first run back, testing the foot ✅ 8k Steady Run - surprised myself with pace 💨 ✅ 5k Recovery Run – crisp morning miles ✅ 15k Long Run - new personal best distance, but a real personal battle! Total mileage: 35km – my highest yet 🙌 Even with soreness in my left foot, I pushed through safely and learned a lot about pain management, pacing, and recovery. 💬 Highlights & Lessons Learned 🔹 Returning to training after travel fatigue ✈️ 🔹 How I’m managing a possible stress fracture scare 🔹 Exploring new running routes near home 🗺️ 🔹 Why I’m focusing more on heart-rate training than pace 🔹 Gear updates - running vest, hydration setup & fuelling gels 🔹 Foot recovery plan - ibuprofen, rest & warm-up improvements 🧠 Reflections This week reminded me that marathon training isn’t just physical - it’s mental. Between pain management, fatigue, and discipline, I had to dig deep to stay consistent. Even when runs didn’t go perfectly, the progress is showing - and every kilometre is taking me one step closer to race day. I’ve also started researching warm-up routines for long-distance runners, as I realise injury prevention will be key over the next few months. 💸 Running for a Cause I’m running the London Marathon 2026 to raise money for the Sickle Cell Society, a charity doing amazing work for those affected by sickle cell disorder.
