V1.5 of Maiden in Black. Only minor arrangement changes for this version. Instead, I focused on improving the sound and fixing some issues. Mastered by a paid professional engineer this time who did a wonderful job. Actual mastering made a big difference for this piece instead of the automated tools that I mindlessly used for the first version, and I feel like now this version gets closer to having the emotional expression I wanted this arrangement to have. Unfortunately some new issues arose, and I'll only be able to fix those when/if I rework this into an actual V2 and make bigger changes to the overall piece. It doesn't sound like it, but the project file of this one is a complete mess to the point where some things are only barely salvageable anymore, and like for Within the Giant, I had no idea what I was doing when I originally produced this. This is one of my favorite VGM tracks of all time and I have been wanting to make a video of this for over six years. The appeal of this track might be hard to put in words for people who have not played this game. It‘s similar to how the Resident Evil Save Room Themes feel in terms of peace and safety, however this one also has a sense of longing and uneasiness to it that never resolves, a neverending circle of emotional states, and that is expressed beautifully in an amazing chord progression. The game features two versions of it: "Maiden in Black", an orchestral version that plays in the central hub area and features silence between the chords, and then an unnamed and unreleased electronic arrangement heard during the game‘s save file menu and character creation screen. This arrangement is a combination of both of them. It was inspired by the long YouTube videos that feature the same track on repeat for many loops, because this is definitely a contender for such a treatment, and I listened to it myself in such a manner.
