Do you know where the oldest gold treasure in the world is? On 12 December 1901, a group of socially active people established the Varna Archaeological Society. The inauguration of an archaeological museum was a task of prime importance for the Society. On June 11, 1906 the first exhibition of the Museum was officially opened in a room of the Girls’ High School. Nowadays the museum is still in the same imposing building of the former Girl's High school. The most spectacular part of the collection undoubtedly is the world-famous Eneolithic Necropolis – Varna, exhibited in three separate museum exposition halls.
