Regional Plan Association has a discussion on our latest report, “Homes on Track: Connecticut an Analysis of Existing Conditions for Transit-Oriented Communities.” Moderated by Pete Harrison, RPA’s Connecticut Director, this webinar explores why, despite growing recognition of the benefits of transit-oriented communities and several successful examples, many cities and towns in Connecticut still struggle to align housing growth with public transportation. The conversation highlights the obstacles communities face, from zoning and land-use challenges to gaps in state coordination and investment. The report underscores a striking opportunity: only 9% of Connecticut’s land accounts for nearly half of all residents and two-thirds of the state’s jobs, all within walking distance of a bus or train station. By focusing resources, planning capacity, and strategic support on these areas, Connecticut can strengthen its economy, meet housing needs, and reduce environmental impacts. Panelists outline ongoing local and state initiatives while making the case for deeper state leadership to help communities realize the full potential of transit-oriented development. Speakers: Pete Harrison – Connecticut Director, Regional Plan Association Nick Kantor – Program Director, DesegregateCT
