On this trip it was just myself, Captain AL, and Constable John heading out to Mary’s Fish Camp with one simple goal — explore, fish, and learn something new. The conditions looked decent on paper, but the water told a different story. Even though the tide chart said it was incoming, the negative tide made the area sketchier than expected, exposing shallow cuts and unforgiving bottom. We took our time, reading the water carefully and easing into a spot neither of us had fished before. That caution paid off. The bite wasn’t wild, but it was honest. Before long, we landed a small lizardfish — not a trophy by any means, but still a win when you’re learning new water. Sometimes it’s not about what you catch, but where you catch it and what you take away from the experience. Despite the challenging tide, the trip was a success. We laughed, stayed safe, and added another location to the mental fishing map.
