You'd be forgiven if you think the front cover of this fan is made of bits of chocolate arranged in a checkerboard pattern, surrounded by an outrageously ornate picture frame, but actually it's a piece of molded plastic with some paint & badging on it. This is a National ornate ventilating fan, I believe the model number is FV-25DGU. The seller I got this fan from said it's never been used before, and was part of a store's display. The pattern of dust & what little rust there is on the fan when I got it seem to corroborate that story. I still think of this fan as the least interesting fan from that lot, but among my entire fan collection, this fan does stand out! Not only because the front cover is a bit ridiculous, it's also built in an interesting way. For one, the metal frame & H bracket for the motor is screwed together, whereas later Matsushita ventilating fans had those bits spot-welded, perhaps to save on cost. The motor that this fan uses is different from the previous & later generations, in that the size of the motor itself is much smaller than those aforementioned generations. If I remember correctly, around the time this fan was built was the only time Matsushita ever offered dual voltage ventilating fans in Indonesia, while Sanyo kept churning out dual voltage fans up till the late 80's. I believe they fully foresaw the full power grid change in Indonesia, and used this 'special' motor only for that transition era, and had plans from the start to use this frame in later versions of this fan once they can build 220V fans exclusively. That theory is based on the small motor size that require bracket extensions, and the H bracket conveniently fitting larger, later generation motors. This fan also has metal shutters, a carry-over from previous generation Matsushita household vent fans, while the next generation had plastic shutters with similar shape. As for performance, I don't think that ornate grille gives it much restriction, as it moves about as much air as the regular non decorative variant of this fan. Today we live in a world where sleek & minimalistic is what most people prefer, resulting in basically the extinction of deco vent fans like this. I personally am against that movement, and I'm happy that I'm able to obtain a piece of household electronics from a design era years ago. #National #ExhaustFan
