Seeing ourselves as currently living in Dark Ages of our own. But unlike the 5th Century-10th Century hole in history, ours begins with Digital Media and its fragile inability to physically survive the weathering of time. As we record history on hard-drives more and more, we risk the permanent erasure of all that we know today. Servers and clouds are mysterious. We don't know what will survive of our records now. Along with that is a reference to the Techno-Feudalist times we are in. There is no escaping the digital shadow we are in when everything we touch is owned by those who control the digital infrastructure. This album is an expression of the ennui that comes from being a small spec on a dying hard-drive, and the beauty of temporariness. It is centered on the sound of warbled tape recorded in the 1960's, and then re-recorded by me in 2023. The Mellotron is a beautiful instrument coveted by all composers. An entire orchestra in one keyboard, immortalized by the Beatles and the Zombies amongst many others in an era when music was to be touched and held. The sound of this keyboard tells the whole story of beauty in fidelity loss. I wouldn't be surprised if it's mechanical tones outlived every hard disc in 1000 years. The flute and violin used to record those long held single-notes are the skeletons of early man, and their frequency tones are ancient cave drawings. This album is a documentary and an ode to those relics. Special Thanks: Shawn Cleary for his vintage Mellotron and long walks Jimmy Hadley for the name and long walks Lilliana Villines for the daily inspiration Brad Hock for the artwork and thematic influence
