Goni may continue to intensify as it approaches the Philippines, but the storm will likely make a Category 5 landfall today. Goni is forecast to make landfall with 175mph winds in Catanduanes in under 6 hours, with catastrophic impacts extending into Bicol and Luzon shortly after. Warnings are now in place by local authorities with signal #3 and signal #4 warnings currently in place. Note that southward shifts in the track forecast continued, and odds for major impacts in Catanduanes and Bicol are all but certain. Typhoon Goni is currently projected as a Stage 8 on the CDPS where as much as 500 to 700 millimeters of rain could fall over Central Luzon along with extremely damaging winds near the center, potentially with winds well into category 5 strength. However, this will be over a concentrated area as Goni is a very compact storm. All Interests in the Central Luzon and Metro Manila Area, as well as Bicol, Catanduanes, Samar, and Leyte should have preparation for Goni (Philippine name Rolly) already completed as catastrophic impacts will begin coming onshore in the very near future.
