This is an introductory course, suitable for those who may not have read the OT in its entirety before. Note, however, that some of the “excursions” we will take, and the extra homework assignment for Master students is quite challenging. We begin by approaching the OT as if it were a “play” which consists of different “acts” and “scenes”. What concepts hold the story together? How do we play our part? We then look at specific books in greater detail, notably the Psalms, Ecclesiastes, and some of the prophets. We will also go on some brief excursions into Biblical criticism and various hermeneutical frameworks.
