But to understand the truth, we must look at how the election process actually works on the ground. On polling day, when you go to vote, representatives (agents) from different political parties like Telugu Desam Party, YSR Congress, and JanaSena Party are present inside the booth. Before voting begins, a “mock poll” is conducted early in the morning in front of these agents. Around 50 test votes are cast to check whether each button records votes correctly. Only after all agents confirm and sign, real voting starts. Throughout the day, agents maintain their own records of voters. After polling ends, officials announce the total votes recorded in the machine. This number must match the agents’ records. Even a small mismatch will be immediately questioned. Then, the machines are sealed securely with signatures from both officials and party agents. These sealed machines are stored in strong rooms under heavy security, including central forces. Political parties can also monitor these rooms 24/7. Many people wonder if EVMs can be hacked. The answer is no. EVMs do not use internet, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi. They are standalone devices, like a calculator, and cannot be controlled remotely. On counting day, agents again verify the seals before counting begins. Additionally, VVPAT paper slips are randomly checked to match EVM results. So far, no mismatch has been found in hundreds of elections.
