Between Kathmandu, Pokhara and Sauraha, many travelers are missing out on smaller villages such as Chitlang thinking that there’s not much to do or see. There are many great things that you can see and do there, making it a perfect weekend getaway from Kathmandu. Chitlang, NEPAL is a village particularly known for its goat cheese (and plum wine!). A good farmhouse cheese factory is no ordinary place – it is a real foodie travel experience. And that’s exactly what offers Chitlang Goat Cheese Homestay (the first goat cheese factory in Nepal), an epic food trip in Nepal. The owners of the Goat Cheese Factory, Ashok Singh Thakuri and his wife, Rita Singh Thakuri, along with their son, Amar, produce soft cheese, hard cheese and during the lockdown, also started the production of another kind of hard cheese (more matured). They also produce their own delicious plum wine that the owner learnt to make in Belgium. It is a natural wine made without the use of yeast. The tasting menu was quite nice too with: soft and hard cheese, plum wine, popcorn, gundruk, Aloo Sadheko, and Bhatta. The dinner served is usually the popular Nepali Dal Bhat Tarkari with chicken curry but you can ask for barbecue as well. The breakfast is basic but their plum jam is incredibly tasty.
