The Leadership Message of Swami Vivekananda: Dr. R. Balasubramaniam

Balasubramaniam is a medical doctor by training with an MPhil in Hospital Administration and Health Systems Management from BITS, Pilani. He has a master's in Public Administration from Harvard University. He is currently the Frank Rhodes professor at Cornell University and is also an adjunct professor of International Programs at the University of Iowa. He founded the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement, engaged in grassroots approach to improvements in health, education, and community development. As a student, he was ragged badly and couldn't find the courage to return to his college. He spent the days after that at the Ramakrishna Mission as he couldn't stay at home or wander the streets. Over there he found inspiration in the Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda and resolved to take up medicine and work for rural development and upliftment. And within two years, along with his friends, he started the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM). His work is monumental and he has received many awards too in recognition of his services. He is truly a candle lit from the fire that is Swami Vivekananda.
