Smurfette learns an important lesson about love as the Smurfs save the world from the darkest days, and Gargamel meets his evil mate. A sleepy snow-covered Smurf village comes to life when Papa Smurf announces it is Valentine's Day - a special time for celebrating love and friendship, which is what the Smurfs are all about. The little blue bodies bustle with activity preparing for Cupid's yearly visit. They run into their mushroom houses to make valentines for their friends. But Smurfette grows frustrated with so many Smurfs on her list. She wishes she could make just one Valentine for her own Prince Smurfing. She writes to Cupid, asking him to make her Valentine's wish come true. Cupid cheerfully ricochets his magic love-tipped arrows around the forest, causing the woodland creatures to fall in love. Cupid spots Gargamel and tries in vain to melt the evil wizard's stone-cold heart. He decides Gargamel can only fall for a woman equally as hard-hearted. Gargamel's desire is, as always, to catch the Smurfs. He intercepts Smurfette's note to Cupid and sends her a fake reply to lure her into his trap. Then he plans to capture the rest of Smurfs when they come to rescue her. Before they arrive, he gets a message from the evil Chlorhydis, a woman more wicked than Gargamel. She promises him gold in exchange for his cat Azrael. The cat is exactly the right dimension she needs to cast the most evil spell of all. On this particular Valentine's day, there will be a total eclipse of the sun. During that time of darkness, she can stand in front of the Magic Wishing Well with the right cat and unleash all the evil in the world. Greedy Gargamel eagerly hands over Azrael but is dropped into a dungeon without his gold. Smurfette escapes and tries to get to the well before the evil woman, to wish for her Prince Smurfling. Cupid arrives in time to save Smurfette from some poisonous thorns. He tells Smurfette she can only find love in her own heart. Chlorhydis reaches the well first and throws Azrael in. She is just about to make her evil wish when Gargamel pops out of the well with the cat on his head. The Smurfs arrive and pummel her with snowballs to keep her from uttering the dreaded spell. Cupid penetrates the villainess' heart with his love arrow. Even Gargamel succumbs to the cherub's magic as the wicked ones fall into each other's arms. Smurfette jumps up to the well to wish for her Prince Smurfing until she sees Azrael about to pounce on Papa Smurf. She has a change of heart and wishes them all back home. Safely back in their village, the Smurfs rejoice and celebrate around a huge Valentine's cake. Grouchy successful avoids Cupid's arrows, leaving the little god of love a challenge for next year.
