Thanks for watching, please like and subscribe for more videos Definitely not perfect but had a lot of fun with this one! Seeing as there was some controversy in my comments on the last tone video, I wanted to experiment some more with the bass tones on "Gently Weeps"... this experiment consists of me playing both the Fender Jazz and the Fender Bass VI separated into left and right audio channels (sorry non headphone users!). Bass VI on the left, Jazz on the right. To my ears, at tons of times, it sounds like it could be either one! But for SURE they are both playing in the chorus. My thoughts on this are pretty simple but I'll definitely deep dive into it for the White Album tones video I'm working on. It sounds to me (and others, like Neil Candelora who played both the Jazz and Bass VI in his Gently Weeps cover for Ably House) that there is definitely both basses playing on this track. I think John originally laid down the bass track on the Bass VI, which was later overdubbed by Paul on the Jazz. I tried to get this to sound as close as possible in tone, and as I mentioned to me, sometimes it sounds like the two could be interchangeable. The most notable thing for me would be the hard stops played on both the D and G strings during the verses. Tonally it sound like the Bass VI but with Paul doubling that on just the D string. There's just something about the way the sound "pops" that I was not hearing when trying it on the Jazz... but I also have a totally different setup. Also for accuracy sake, I added the tripled 12 string part that appears in the deconstructed version of the track (that is basically inaudible in the original mix). Anyway, this is a precursor of things to come in many ways!!
