Selene and Michael, the protagonists, are captured by humans. Due to her vampiric traits, Selene is placed in cryogenic suspension for twelve years. Selene manages to escape her imprisonment and encounters David, a young vampire, and sickly Lycans who are after another escapee. Following visions, Selene finds a young girl, her and Michael's daughter, who released her from cryogenic suspension. The girl has hybrid traits, and her bite wound doesn't heal until she drinks blood. Selene, David, and the girl find refuge with a vampire coven but are attacked by Lycans. Selene joins the fight, but they face a formidable "Super-Lycan" who is immune to silver. She is knocked out but revived by her blood, saving David's life. The coven surrenders the girl to the Lycans, prompting Selene to leave. The film stars Kate Beckinsale, Stephen Rea, Michael Ealy, Theo James, India Eisley, and Charles Dance.
