Pancreas is a mixed or heterocrine gland situated posterior to body wall deep into the peritoneum. it has four parts; uncinate process, head, body and tail. It has both exocrine as well as endocrine portion. the exocrine portion is in the form of pancreatic acini. each acinus is lined with a single layer of acinar cells. these cells have receptors for cholecystokinin in their basal membrane. the duct system of pancreas consists of central lumen, intercalated duct (with centroacinar cells), intra and interlobular ducts, main pancreatic duct of Wirsung and accessory duct of Santorini. Main pancreatic duct joins with common bile duct that drains into papilla of Vater. the endocrine pancreas is made up of about 1 million islets of Langerhans. each islet has five cell types; alpha, beta, delta, G cells and PP cells that release glucagon, insulin, somatostatin, gastrin and pancreatic polypeptide respectively. #histologyofpancreas #pancreaticacini #exocrinepancreas #endocrinepancreas #pancreaticductofWirsung #papillaofVater #IsletsofLangerhans #alphacells #betacells #deltacells #Gcells #PPcells #insulin #glucagon #Gastrin
