In this WW2 U-boat story, German commanders once considered shallow coastal waters a temporary refuge. Near the Bay of Biscay, submarines believed proximity to friendly bases and limited maneuvering space would make Allied attacks more difficult and allow safer transit to and from the Atlantic. Then everything changed. RAF Coastal Command began aggressively patrolling the region with long range aircraft, radar detection, and coordinated air strikes. Suddenly, the shallow waters that once felt like protection turned into dangerous traps where U-boats had little room to dive, evade, or disappear beneath the surface. By the time German crews understood the new threat, aircraft were appearing without warning, depth charges and rockets were raining down, and the journey home became one of the most dangerous parts of any patrol. Watch to the end to see how Coastal Command transformed the Bay of Biscay into a deadly gauntlet — and why U-boat commanders realized shallow water could be just as deadly as the open ocean. 👍 Like for more WW2 naval stories 🔔 Subscribe for weekly U-boat and Battle of the Atlantic videos #WW2 #UBoat #BattleOfTheAtlantic #Kriegsmarine #NavalHistory #WorldWar2 #History #Submarine #WW2History
