In the aftermath of the tsunami in Thailand, Dr. Carver offered advice first-hand to surgeons treating crush injuries and other trauma in areas most severely damaged by the storm. He was among the first team of surgeons to join the Baja Project for Crippled Children, a volunteer club foot surgery program in Baja area of Mexico. The program has cured thousands of severe foot deformities and club feet since it began. Medical Advances. Dr. Carver was co-inventor of the surgical absorbable fixation device, the Weil-Carver Hammertoe Implant. The Biomet Corporation, a global supplier of surgical implant devices has produced the implant. This device, now used worldwide, has resulted in correcting severe hammertoe deformities without the complications of the external metal hardware, formerly used to correct hammertoes. Dr. Carver participated in the approval study for Demagraft, an artificial skin substitute that combines living cells in a protein cell matrix for slow healing ulcers and abscesses on the foot.
