Firefly Airlines is not a new kid on the block - Malaysians know it for their ATR-72 turboprop operations from Kuala Lumpur’s second airport, before parent company Malaysia Airlines decided to bring their subsidiary into the ever-lucrative budget jet airline market with hand-me-down Boeing 737 jets. Seemingly, their jet service has been growingly slowly and there are only a few international destinations that we can give their service a try. This was until recently, of course, with the launch of their service from Penang to Singapore in March 2023. With the national airline slowly adopting a “Scoot” model by moving destinations from the mainline fleet to Firefly, how can their budget offshoot compete?
