There, Pike beat her, tortured her for about 30 minutes, carved a pentagram into her chest, and ultimately crushed her skull with a piece of asphalt, even keeping a fragment of bone as a souvenir. After confessing to the crime, Pike was convicted in March 1996 of first-degree murder and conspiracy, and on March 30 of that year she was sentenced to death, becoming the youngest woman on death row in the United States in the post-Furman era. Shipp received a life sentence, while Peterson was granted parole as an accessory. Pike has remained on Tennessee’s death row ever since and is currently scheduled for execution in September 2026.
