Plate Solving using Sharpcap Tutorial This is short tutorial explaining how can we do plate solving using Sharpcap application. We will be using Stellarium program for pointing and slewing to the desired star using GOTO mount connected via Laptop. Once the star is slewed we know it is not in camera frame because of various issues like mount alignment, flexures, inaccurate polar alignment etc. To overcome above issues and get the star in center we have to do plate solving. For which we use SharpCap plate solving method. Note that you need to set sufficient high exposure to detect 50+ stars in field of view for your telescope-camera setup. Once the SharpCap finds enough stars to create pointing model it slews the telescope-mount to correct position of star set by Stellarium. Get the star in perfect center position using mount control panel. Sync the mount once the star in perfect center of the camera frame. Doing more such star alignments, centering and syncing in different parts of sky will allow your mount to build correct pointing model for your setup and increase your targeting accuracy for any area of sky.
