Persistent genital arousal disorder (PGAD) is an intense genital sensation that can persist for hours, days or even years and is not perceived as erotic. In this discussion with Rare Disease Report, Dr. Barry Komisaruk from the Dept of Psychology at Rutgers University discussed his poster presented at the NORD DIA U.S. Conference on Rare Diseases and Orphan entitled 'Unusually high incidence of sacral spinal (Tarlov) cysts in persitant genital arousal disorder (PGAD)' authored by Drs Barry Komisaruk and Huey-Jen Lee. As shown in this video, many patients with Tarlov cysts in the sacral spine have PGAD. Unfortunately the stigma associated with this condition as well as the reluctance for many spinal specialists to consider the source of back pain or PGAD to be in the sacral region of the spine can greatly delay a diagnosis of PGAD.
