Amending Clay Soil to Plant Climbing Roses

Today, I’m switching things up and planting roses! Normally, I’m in the vegetable garden talking about things like top dressing or soil amendments, but today, I wanted to show you another use for my favorite soil amendment, Soil³—perfect for amending my clay soil when planting trees and shrubs like these rose bushes. I’m planting some own-root climbing roses called ‘New Dawn’ around a new arbor I built, and it’s crucial they get established in good soil. I’m mixing Soil³ with my native Georgia clay to give these roses the nutrients they need in a gentle way that won’t overwhelm or burn the roots. It’s important to provide a balanced soil that nourishes them slowly as they get established. Plus, I’m adding a layer of mulch to finish the job.
