They usually present as soft, movable lumps under the skin. While they are typically non-cancerous and harmless. They can occur at any place in the body such as the hands, legs, chest, and even the back area of the body. In rare cases, it occurs in intra-abdominal and intra-brain also. The different kinds of lipomas which we see is single lipomas or multiple lipomas. Sometimes people have 5-6 or even 50 to 60 lipomas in the body. The commonly seen symptoms of lipomas are - Soft and doughy to the touch. They also move easily with slight finger pressure. Generally small. Lipomas are typically less than 2 inches (5 centimeters) in diameter, but they can grow. Sometimes painful. While lipomas are generally harmless and do not require treatment, they may be removed if they cause discomfort, become large, or for cosmetic reasons. But it is important to get it checked because sometimes it can be a cyst, lymph nodes, or neurofibroma. Post-operation if the lipomas were in your hand, then it is usually advised to not pick heavy weights for at least two weeks.
