New data reveals rising steel import costs With CBAM now moving from transition to application, recently released information is revealing how the European Commission's new regulations will be implemented as emissions-based import costs. In this webinar, Jon Carruthers-Green a Steel Market Analyst from MEPS International, examines how the Commission's December disclosures are already influencing import prices, what this means for the competitiveness of key supplying countries, and how these dynamics could influence Europe's domestic steel prices. The session will also address ongoing uncertainties, including EU ETS price exposure, the use of verified emissions data to reduce costs, and recent proposals that may introduce flexibility into CBAM’s administration. Bio Jon is a steel market analyst at MEPS International, where he has worked since 2013. With a background in forensic engineering and a degree from Sheffield Hallam University, he combines technical expertise with strong analytical skills. While at MEPS, Jon has gained extensive experience of writing market commentaries and producing price forecasts across a range of global steel markets. He is also a regular on MEPS’s Speaking of Steel podcast series. Jon’s recent focus has been on trade defence measures, including both the EU’s and UK’s emissions-based CBAM, and the fast-evolving areas of decarbonisation and green steel.
