In this discussion, Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, examines the mechanics of complicity with genocide in international law and—crucially—within universities. This comes at a time when universities in the Global North, including our own King’s College London, are yielding to external political pressures that undermine their most basic principles: the commitment to free and rational debate, and their duty to protect staff and students. Francesca Albanese brings her expertise and experience as an international lawyer to set the record straight. There cannot be such a thing as ‘neutrality,’ value-based or otherwise, in times such as these: this represents anti-Palestinian racism and unlawful complicity with genocide. The talk includes an introduction by our Union representative Lucia Pradella, a poignant speech by our student Karam Weigert, and a call to moral clarity by our courageous colleague Rana Baker.
