A view from the stands. As Nkrumah goes down and the next 40 mins or so over 15 mins. I’ve put the time in, so you can see how long things took. At the time I/we didn’t know the severity of the injury. Just plenty of medical staff, round the player. Players from both teams, were stood around, kicking balls, stretching out not really knowing what was happening. We as supporters didn’t know what was happening. Lots of speculation as to what was going on. Eventually the game was suspended. The player was removed from the pitch, on a stretcher. By all accounts he’d dislocated his shoulder/broke his collarbone. Then after what felt like an age, the game was abandoned. Hearing that Scunthorpe United, the referee and the league all wanted the game to go ahead. Wealdstone on the other hand, didn’t and stayed in the dressing room, citing stress and mental health of the players due to the injury. Now, as you saw on the footage his arm was still attached, no one was behind the stretcher carrying it. The majority of the players didn’t step foot near the injured player at the time while he was on the floor. It seems the easy option to state mental health. Yes of course it’s not nice to see a fellow teammate be stretched off. To play the mental health card though, because you’re losing 2-1 and have no substitute to bring on is bang out of order. It makes a mockery of the game. It makes a mockery of those with mental health issues. Is every other team to play the same trick now with 10 to go if losing? Now with respect to Nkrumah, he was obviously injured. Hopefully he fully recovers and isn’t out for too long. #UTI
